At CW Rehab, we believe in treating the “whole person,” and our treatment plans rarely come as a one-size-fits-all package. Our multidisciplinary approach in caring for our patients often involves different types of treatments like chiropractic care, massage therapy, physiotherapy, and acupuncture. If you’re looking for complementary therapies for muscle pain, joint pain, or headaches, acupuncture is one of our most recommended treatments. When patients first come to see us they wonder: what are the benefits of acupuncture?
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the practice of applying a thin, solid, stainless steel needle into tissue and then activating the point through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner’s hands or with electrical stimulation. Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years. It is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and more recently Contemporary Medical Acupuncture (CMA). Practitioners choose points on the body lying on connected pathways or meridians to apply needles which can help improve circulation, promote relaxation of muscle, help neurological function, and provide pain relief.
Most insurance companies cover acupuncture sessions, and our patients consistently report relief from many ailments after beginning a course of treatment. In our clinical experience, acupuncture has shown to be a valid and useful adjunct to other therapies provided to maximize a patient’s recovery from injury and to promote a sense of general health and well-being.
